6/8 Metronome

6/8 time signature

Practice 6/8 time with a free online metronome. Choose the common 3 + 3 compound-duple grouping or six straight eighth-note pulses.

How to use the 6/8 metronome

Practice six eighth-note pulses as two groups of three, the common compound-duple feel. Select Straight if you want six evenly accented-free pulses with only the bar downbeat emphasized.

Counting 6/8

For 3 + 3, count 1-2-3, 4-5-6. The first beat is the strongest and beat four is a secondary accent. This differs from 3/4, which has three quarter-note beats.

How to count this time signature

At the default 120 BPM, each written unit gets one click every 0.5 seconds. The grouping marks larger pulses without removing the smaller clicks.

In written music, groups of three are often felt as larger dotted beats. Here the BPM number still times each smaller click; the accents show the larger groups.
